King Leary
In these times of history, I am reminded of “King Lear” by William Shakespeare.
Read it at 15. Loved it.
Why? Was having a shit time. Nice to know I wasn’t alone. And that dark poetry showed me what might be even worse.
Macbeth
I could also mention “Macbeth”, another play where the female lead character doesn’t get a billing.
In the theatre world, Macbeth shall not be named. In the novel and movie world, Voldemort shall not be named. In this new world order, without democracy, President Trump becomes King.
For the Macbeths, to meet their ambition, they must kill King Duncan. Sux to be him.
Trump must blame Obama and/or Biden for their ambition. Diversion away from Epstein?
As an aside, Trump isn’t king of the arts. Which must be hard for him. After all, he deserves an Oscar for promising all to the people and delivering bugger all.
Richard III
I could mention “Richard III”, who purportedly killed his two nephews to gain a kingdom. Sux to be them.
Should William and Harry hide from Kristi Noem and Marjorie Taylor Greene?
King Lear
But “King Lear”. Back to being 15. “King Lear” was a blanket to embrace me, knowing that other humans had their shit...in dark emotional poetry…playing out multiple sides of what it is to be human.
So here’s the 90 second elevator pitch:
“An elderly narcissistic King, kicks out his loving youngest daughter and splits his land into two. Inevitably he is robbed of everything and is ruined in a storm by his other two daughters. He dies as he recognises his wrongs and humanity.”
Now, confession time. I related to the actions of the middle daughter the most. In punishing Lear’s supporters, she was doing what the older sister encouraged her to do and what King Lear presumably did during any war. She may have then taken a step too far by gauging someone’s eyes out. But let’s not quibble.
So what does “King Lear” have to do with current corrupt events?
Through the dark language, prophesying corrupt rule, we can be warned that things will get worse. Let our darkest fears awaken. Such as splitting the land, aka gerrymandering by Trump, without the people’s consent.
Democracy is the loving youngest daughter who does her best to play fair and she dies (really sux to be her).
And who are her older sisters? (1) Billionaires funding Trump or otherwise enjoying the friends with benefits. (2) Technology giants holding way too much power over the direction of our lives.
And so we aren’t distracted, whether you want to look at the Epstein files or not, President Trump is precisely King Leary. Except what if he never finds redemption?
At present moment, King Leary works for billionaires and his own interests. He is dismantling international and domestic relationships. He is deporting people without hearing, and you may be next.
Hold him and his supporters to account. Continue standing up for a kinder future.
